At BAM Afterschool Activities, we believe all students deserve free, fun afterschool activities with healthy, positive mentors.
BAM engages members of the community to volunteer by sharing their interests, hobbies, and skills with middle school students during after school activities.
Volunteers are what makes BAM successful!
What are BAM Activities?
Activities are designed to help students build life skills by engaging in new interests or hobbies. A B.A.M! Activity can be any appropriate that will engage middle school students on school grounds.
How can I volunteer with BAM?
Volunteers may create activities to fit their interests, skills, and schedules. You don't have to be an expert on a topic. You only need to have some interest and a willingness to share with middle school students. B.A.M! can help you develop your ideas and provide support for supplies.
Volunteers may also choose to help support other BAM Activities.
How much time do I have to commit?
Activities take place from 3:05 PM to 4:25 PM, Monday – Thursday during the school year. Most activities are 4 – 10 sessions long . Activities might meet once a week, twice a week, or four days straight. Schedules are flexible and based on the interests and time of the volunteers.
What types of activities are BAM Activities?
A B.A.M! Activity can be any appropriate that will engage middle school students on school grounds. Arts, Cooking, Crafts, Cultural, Games, Health, Life Skills, Music, Sports, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), etc.
What are middle school students interested in?
Middle school students have a surprising variety of interests.
Arts - Drama/Acting, Poetry, Dance, Painting, Origami, Drawing, Photography, Comic Book, Stenciling, Portrait drawing, Anime, Crayon Art, Graffiti, Doodling
Crafts - Fashion/sewing, Basket Weaving, Knit/Crochet, Kite Making, Folk Arts, Scrap booking, Holiday Décor, Jewelry Making, Wood Working/Carving (no power tools)
Cultural - Alaska Native Arts, Filipino Culture, Hip Hop, Cajun, Anime
Game Room - Magic the Gathering/Pokemon cards, Card Games, Comic Books, Board Games, Outdoor Games
Life Skills - Cooking (various themes, Italian, Mexican, Holiday, Seasonal, Baking, No Bake, Thai, French, etc.), Financial Awareness , Money Management, Stock Markets, Current Events, World Affairs
Music - Intro to Guitar, Music Appreciation, Hip Hop, Garage Band, Singing Groups, Glee
Sports - Tennis at FD, Fly tying, Yoga, Skate Boarding, Dance, Flag Football, Four Square, Geo Caching, Parkour, Bicycle repair, Martial Arts, Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Table Tennis, Yard Games – Horseshoes, Croquet, Boccie
